can't see the forest for the forest fire.
good lord, it's july already. when did that happen?
today i was on the bus, waiting at a red light at divisidero, and there was an amusing trio on the sidewalk. there was a guy with spiky pink hair and big black boots wearing stilts. there was a large girl practicing riding her unicycle down the hill through his legs. and there was a girl cheering them on, with a chain connecting her eyebrow to her ear, and a skirt so short you could see her underwear when the wind blew or she jumped up and down to cheer for the other two.
walking to muni from the bar i was at tonight, i stopped under an awning in front of some buidling downtown. the awning was black, but there was a red and blue neon sign for snapple in the window, and the light made the awning look an amazing shade of lavendar. i stopped under the awning to look at the color, and i was thinking about how heather and peggy had both mentioned the way a good designer is always noticing things and filing them away for future use, and i just about jumped out of my skin when the guy laying in the doorway, whom i had not seen, said, "how's it going?"
i'm the new master electrician at the marin shakespeare festival. it's kind of a weird gig, and the place is kind of weird, but it's alright. one thing about doing lights at an outdoor theater is, you can't work until it's dark out. duh. but it doesn't get dark until frickin' 9pm these days, so focus is kind of a late night thing. but it's really neat to be up on top of forty feet of truss, clipped in so you don't even have to hold on, and there's a cool breeze, and you lean back and there's a bunch of stars right above you. you don't get to do that a lot in theater.
reading you shall know our velocity! by dave eggers. boy, he gets the what-goes-on-in-my-head thing really well. all the stupid imagined conversations, all that. but his characters are bigger assholes than me, by a lot, so that makes me feel better.
schedule is weirder than ever. tomorrow is about a hundred years long. but friday i can sleep, and that will be excellent indeed.
